The strategy sets out our aim to improve our population’s mental health, emotional wellbeing and physical health by focusing on prevention and working more closely with communities in the provision of excellent, equitable, joined-up services, care and support.

In delivering the strategy we are working to:

  • Develop and embed a trauma informed approach across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
  • Promote positive mental wellbeing and reduce death by suicide

Trauma Informed approach

A key enabler for this priority and also running through the Integrated Care Strategy is a drive for a system-wide trauma informed approach to policy and services. Working in a trauma informed way seeks to build feelings of psychological safety, providing culturally sensitive services that people trust and want to use. This approach is founded upon six principles of Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, Empowerment and Cultural Considerations.  Working in a trauma informed way can reduce the risk of long term health and social problems.

The key priorities for this programme are:
  • Embed trauma informed practice across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
  • Raise awareness across the system through trauma informed training
  • Create and implement a trauma informed organisation self-assessment tool
  • Encourage providers that work in a trauma informed way through commissioning

The Integrated Care Partnership held an assembly in September 2024 focusing on trauma informed approaches which shared good practice and tools to support the adoption of this approach.

Mental wellbeing

Mental health and wellbeing are influenced by various factors across different life stages. Maintaining good mental wellbeing impacts physical health, lifestyle choices, productivity and the ability to cope. The mental wellbeing programme highlights the importance of preventing mental ill health, promoting positive mental wellbeing and reducing death by suicide irrespective of anyone’s circumstances.

The key priorities for this programme are:
  • The prevention of suicide through improving skills and confidence in having conversations around suicide and supporting people to access services when they need
  • Access to appropriate bereavement support including support for those bereaved by suicide
  • Mental wellbeing and suicide prevention in the workplace, through implementation of core standards and a supportive toolkits for organisations

The Integrated Care Partnership held a mental wellbeing assembly in September 2023 which promoted mental wellbeing and suicide prevention across partner organisations, including shared examples of good practice.
