Job Title

Physiotherapist - Practice Educator

Where do I work?

Across the whole Hampshire & Isle of Wight

About my Role

As a Practice Educator I teach on the Preceptorship programme and support the newly registered AHPs and Nurses through their first year in clinical practice.

It is a rewarding role, I particularly enjoy getting to know the Preceptees and see them progress in this first year and onwards through their career Another part of my role is overseeing the allocation of AHP student placements in the trust.

Clinical placements for undergrad students and apprentices are valuable to developing the AHP workforce of the future.  In my role I support leadership placements for Physiotherapists.

Students often commence placements not really knowing what to expect but by the end have worked hard on project and can recognise the value they have contributed to the service and how the knowledge and skills developed will benefit them in their careers.  I also really appreciate the time and effort that the clinical staff provide to support placements which is often rewarded further when these students become staff members and become educators themselves in supporting students.

How Did i become a Physiotherapist & Practice Educator?

I started out my career in Healthcare as a Band 3 Rehabilitation Assistant in the community of Southampton.   Having completed a Sport studies degree and gained the experience as a Rehab assistant I decided to return to University to complete my Physiotherapy degree at University of Plymouth.

My band 5 years were spent in a rotational post in a community trust working on Rehabilitation wards, Community Rehab teams and MSK.   This enabled me to consolidate my clinical knowledge and skills to become a Band 6 in the community (UCR and community rehab roles).
