After the success of our first in-person Research Collaborative event, we’re pleased to announce the next one will be held on Thursday 19th June 10:00am – 12:00pm at Southampton Central Hall, SO14 1NF. To join, please complete this short sign-up form: Research Collaborative Membership Application Form. A member of the RViR Partnership will process your application as soon as possible and send on the information for attending the collaborative.

This one will be focusing on mental health research in collaboration with NIHR ARC Wessex Mental Health Hub.

Once again, you’ll hear from three great speakers about how they are supporting under-served communities to participate in research, as well as the opportunity to discuss best practice and current local opportunities with like-minded VCSEs and researchers. We really encourage any researchers, commissioners, VCSEs, and community members who are interested in finding out more about the different types of research happening locally to come along.  Please share this invitation with any communities you feel would be interested in attending.

We are excited to welcome:

  • Hannah Bowers, from University of Southampton, talking about her research on 'distress' caused by difficult living situations compared to 'depression' and how these are treated in primary care, and how to support people who want to stop antidepressants
  • Dr Emine Gurbuz, from University of Portsmouth, speaking on the development of an intersectionality project with the neuroqueer community
  • Associate Professor Ursula Rolfe, on identifying the knowledge gaps in paramedics when they care for people with mental health issues

On the 19th June it is also World Sickle Cell Day so we hope to be able to spread information and mobilise action to improve care and support for those living with sickle cell. So watch this space!

The Research Collaborative is part of Raising Voices in Research (RViR), a project funded under the NHS England’s Accelerated Access Collaborative (REND), which aims to increase diversity of participation in health and social care research (broadly defined) in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICS region. The Research Collaborative brings together organisations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to map research activities, share best practice, work together to increase participation, to enable more engagement and outreach from academics to underserved communities, and to promote RViR outputs to researchers to drive local system change to improve diversity in health and social care research.
