More people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been protected from COVID-19 than anywhere else in the South-East region, thanks to the hard work and commitment of teams working on the vaccination programme.

The 2025 spring programme has now drawn to a close and locally 175,000 eligible people came forward to take up their offer of the vaccine.

The uptake level in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight was 63% which was the highest across the South-East and the third highest for population uptake across the country.

Those eligible for the spring vaccination were:

  • people aged 75 years and over
  • residents of care homes for older adults
  • adults and children aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system

Dr Michelle Legg, a local GP and Clinical Lead for the Covid Vaccination Programme at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said: “This phenomenal achievement could not have happened without a huge amount of hard work and collaboration between Primary Care Networks, community pharmacies and the COVID-19 vaccination programme team.

“I would like to thank all the teams across our system who have taken part in the campaign, which has led to the high levels of vaccination rates across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This will ultimately keep people and communities safe and healthy.”

Neil Hardy, Chief Pharmacist at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said: “More patients than ever before are now visiting their local community pharmacy to get vaccinated and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our pharmacists and their teams who have been working alongside GPs to ensure that those who are eligible have been able to easily receive their vaccination.”

Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations will be offered to those eligible this autumn and early winter to people who need extra protection from these illnesses. Further information will be available shortly regarding this year’s vaccination campaign.

Vaccinations will be available from GP practices, pharmacies and pop-up clinics.

Residents in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight may also be eligible for other vaccinations, including the:

  • pneumococcal vaccine (if you're aged 65 or over)
  • RSV vaccine (if you're pregnant or aged 75 to 79 – if you turned 80 on or after 1 September 2024, you're also eligible for the vaccine until 31 August 2025)

These vaccinations help protect against serious illnesses that are more common in the winter, including pneumonia.
