Sex Workers and Health Inequalities
Sex workers often face significant barriers to good health, shaped by stigma, violence, poverty, and being left out of vital health data. These challenges can mean unsafe housing, difficulty getting care, and poorer health outcomes.
This webinar heard real experiences, explored the support that’s out there, and shared ideas on how health and social care can truly meet people's needs.
Chaired by Shamila Dhana, Project Lead for Haven in Portsmouth, a women’s initiative dedicated to empowerment and community support, the session covered:
- People not problems: Holistic and accessible outreach - Dan Pooley, Church Leader, Amber Chaplains
- Bridging the gaps: Sexual health and contraceptive support for street-based sex workers - an outreach approach - SJ Weeks, Sexual Health Nurse, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
- Lived experience - Natalie Farley, Involvement and Engagement Manager, Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust
- Reducing barriers through advocacy and partnership - Miriam Hargreaves, Womens Project Manager and Lead for Vista Project, Harbour Church
